How trying to run faster led to building KULG

It's worth taking a look where the idea to start building KULG for runners started - a simple Google Sheets file that the founder, Maris Heinaru, kept for 12 years to track and improve her running.

Trying to figure out how to become a faster runner, led her to keep a training log and create graphs based on what she was tracking. This allowed her to see her progress from different angles, ensuring the data was accurate and measured, not estimated. It enabled her to compare various data points with how she felt, track everything in one place regardless of which watch brand she used, and hit her goals. But most importantly, it motivated her to keep running.

When becoming a coach, Maris customised that same Google Sheets file for other runners. Their progress and feedback inspired her to build a web app for runners and coaches with other co-founders Jevgeni Striganov and Henri Taube. They decided to call it "KULG", an Estonian word for “flow,” “forward movement,” and “progress,” celebrating the power of long-term consistency in running.
